“Song of Tilopa and Insight Meditation Practice”
Dr. Fred Cooper will offer this teaching and practice, in person (from our Dharma House porch) and on zoom. In the morning Fred will teach the Song of Tilopa. In the afternoon he will teach insight meditation from the Ocean of Certainty, according to the commentary of Traleg Kyabgon Rinpoche, so we can recognize the innate nature.

For prerequisite: it is good to have practiced insight meditation.

Song of Tilopa
།གང་ཞིག་སྙིང་པོར་གྱུར་པ་ཏིལ་གྱི་མར། །རྨོངས་པས་ཏིལ་ལ་ཡོད་པར་ཤེས་གྱུར་ཀྱང་།
gang shik nying por jur pa til gi mar / nyong pay til la yü par shay jur chang
Sesame oil is the essence. / Although the ignorant know that it is in the sesame seed,
།རྟེན་ཅིང་འབྲེལ་འབྱུང་ཡན་ལག་མ་ཤེས་པས། །ཏིལ་མར་སྙིང་པོ་འབྱིན་པར་མི་ནུས་ལྟར།
ten ching drel jung yen lak ma shay pay /
til mar nying po jin par mi nü tar
They don’t understand the way of cause, effect, and becoming, / And therefore are not able to extract the essence, the sesame oil.
།ལྷན་ཅིག་སྐྱེས་པ་གཉུག་མའི་ཡེ་ཤེས་དེ། །འགྲོ་བ་ཀུན་གྱི་སྙིང་ལ་གནས་གྱུར་ཀྱང་།
lhen chik chay pa nyuk may ye she day / dro wa kun gi nying la nay jur chang
Although innate co-emergent wisdom / Abides in the heart of all beings,
།བླ་མས་མ་མཚོན་རྟོགས་པར་མི་ནུས་ཏེ། །ཏིལ་མར་བཞིན་དུ་བཞུགས་པ་གསལ་བ་མིན།
la may ma tsün tok par mi nü tay / til mar zhin du zhuk pa sel wa min
If it is not shown by the guru, it cannot be realized. / Just like sesame oil that remains in the seed, it does not appear.
།ཏིལ་བརྡུངས་ཕུབ་མ་བསལ་བར་གྱུར་པ་ལས། །ཏིལ་མར་སྙིང་པོ་འབྱུང་བ་དེ་བཞིན་དུ།
til dung pub ma sel war jur pal lay / til mar nying po jung wa day zhin du
One removes the husk by beating the sesame, /
And the sesame oil, the essence appears.
།བླ་མས་བསྟན་པ་དེ་བཞིན་ཉིད་ཀྱི་དོན། །ཡུལ་རྣམས་དབྱེར་མེད་ངོ་བོ་གཅིག་ཏུ་འགྱུར།
la may ten pa day zhin nyi chi dön /
yul nam yer may ngo wo chik tu jur
In the same way, the guru shows the truth of tathata, / And all phenomena become indivisible in one essence.
།ཀྱེ་ཧོ། །རིང་དུ་འགྲོ་བ་གཏིང་དཔག་དཀའ་བའི་དོན། །ད་ལྟ་ཉིད་དུ་གསལ་བ་ངོ་མཚར་ཆེ
chay ho! ring du dro wa ting pak ka way dön /
da ta nyi du sel wa ngo tsar chay.
Kye Ho! The far-reaching, unfathomable meaning / Is apparent at this very moment. O how wondrous!
