Lama Lodu Rinpoche teaches august 22

The KMG Sangha of Earth Journey and Herman Rednick Trust invite you to a rare visit and teaching on Thursday, August 22, by Lama Lodu Rinpoche on Calm Abiding and Insight Meditation. Lama Lodu Rinpoche is the resident lama of Kagyu Droden Kunchab in San Francisco, appointed in 1976 by His Holiness the Gyalwa Karmapa and His Eminence Kalu Rinpoche.

Lama Lodü Rinpoche’s teachings are always very clear, unique, and profound. He has supervised numerous translations of practice texts (sadhanas), written several books, and continues to work tirelessly on behalf of Buddhadharma and all sentient beings.

ABOUT THE TEACHING
Calm Abiding and Insight are two meditation practices that are developed together on the path of Buddha Dharma. Calm abiding meditation, also known as Shamatha or Shinay, is the foundational phase that stabilizes the mind by cultivating a steady awareness of the object of meditation. Insight Meditation, also known as Vipassana or Lhatong, is the subsequent deeper phase that develops an understanding of the nature of thoughts. Training in these practices leads the meditator toward the goal of realization of the True Nature of Mind, the enlightened state.

ABOUT THE TEACHER
Lama Lodu was born in Sikkim in 1942 into a Tibetan family. His grandfather, Lama Wongten, was held in very high esteem throughout the region as a yogi and general practitioner of the Dharma. Lama Lodru completed his preliminary training and education at the monasteries of His Holiness the Karmapa and His Eminence Kalu Rinpoche. He also studied and trained under the great yogi Drupon Tenzin Rinpoche and His Eminence Thrangu Rinpoche. Lama completed the traditional three-year retreat under H.E. Kalu Rinpoche, and then spent a period of time leading isolated retreats. He then went to Kalu Rinpoche’s monastery in Sonada and served for seven years as puja master. Lama taught for two years at various European centers before coming to KDK in San Francisco, California.

The Karmapa described Lama as, “a Lama who has highly developed his inner practice.” His teachings touch the heart of all who listen.
